You’ve heard this before – “If it were that easy everybody would be doing it.”
But when it comes to the act of mindfulness, the state of being actively engaged in the present, one would think that would be easy enough to achieve. And yet, with so much emphasis being placed on the more commonly practiced multitasking, the present is fast becoming a thing of the past.
This short post isn’t about the preaching of why many opt for investing their time belaboring the past or anticipating (worrying about) the future. We’ve covered that before!
Now it’s time to reclaim all we really have to begin with and that’s the here and now.
The fact is, mindfulness is easy. It’s natural. But perhaps it’s become a lost art, amid the turmoil and tumult of modern life.
As with most things, deciding to become a mindful person comes down to one thing – choice!
Do you choose to think about what you’re going to say in the upcoming business meeting tomorrow as you’re mindlessly brushing your teeth, or would you rather relish in the act of brushing; feeling the texture of the bristles and tasting the minty toothpaste in your mouth? Did you choose to enjoy the delicious meal you worked so tirelessly to prepare, savoring each morsel and giving thanks for the food that you have on your plate or were you watching television or texting in one hand while holding the fork in the other, barely recalling what you had for dinner?
That’s right – it’s all about choice.
But when you do choose to be mindful of each and every act that you are engaged in, you are doing more than just savoring the moment, you are reclaiming and reaffirming the idea that the present is truly where the gift lies.
I recently narrated a book that is dedicated to this lost but powerful art. Transform Your Life through Mindfulness – Release Subconscious Fear and Reclaim the Present is a straightforward, yet potent treatise on how becoming a mindful person – living in the present can and will change the quality of your life.
In this book you will:
- Learn the history of mindful and meditation practice.
- Learn the mental and physical health benefits of living a mindful life.
- Integrate everyday mindfulness techniques into your life.
- See your life transform on every level as you go from living a mindless life to a mindful life.
